Our world today is fast. We value speed and efficiency. It appears to me that these values have become part of the culture of mission. But in our hurry, who are we leaving behind? What are we missing as we rush forward?

Perhaps, in our attempt to do more and reach more, we can miss the heart of the Gospel: love. For, as Kosuke Koyama reminds us, love travels at the speed of three miles an hour.

The world of disability invites us to pause, to ask ourselves if our pace has become the measure of faithful mission, and to reconsider the pace of the Kingdom of God.

We are invited to be present, to do life together at the pace of love. And in listening and walking alongside one another, we draw near to God and to one another.

And so, while people with disabilities need mission to respond to their needs, it is important to recognise that mission needs people with disabilities. They help us remain true to what we are called to be: a people who make space for one another, and live at the pace of the Kingdom."
