Many mission contexts are shaped not only by trauma—war, displacement, violence, poverty, and loss—but also by cultures that often lead with shame. When trauma goes unrecognized, these dynamics can shape discipleship and churches in unhealthy ways, doing the opposite of drawing people to Jesus. This session explores why understanding trauma is vital in missions and how trauma awareness helps leaders begin to see people through the compassionate eyes of Jesus. Drawing from global experience, Kristy Robison will share a practical, lay-led model for trauma healing that equips local believers to walk with the hurting, create safe healing spaces, and cultivate healthier disciples, leaders, and churches.
